“The Long Absence” (22 x 30 inches / 56 x 76 cm) captures the wisdom, strength, and presence of a Native chief adorned in a traditional feathered headdress. The juxtaposition between the detailed line work of charcoal to the expressive abstraction surrounding the chief emulates the time gone by. With each stroke the theme of tradition passed down seeps deep into the fabric of the paper as the chiefs role in the community was to be the leader but also the guide.
